Modern Halloween

Much of the confusion over how a person should look at Halloween comes from its mixed history. As Samhain, it involved the possibility of active spirits of the dead. It has also become a celebration of fear and superstition. Therefore, what should the modern Christian think about it?

I think there are a few issues we must consider. What are we celebrating? Are we enjoying time with family and friends, or are we celebrating fear? What is the purpose of our activities? What is the benefit of celebrating? How are we compromising if we do?

Do we reject the whole holiday because of some of its bad history? Or, should we keep the good and reject the bad? This is a decision that requires much prayer and consideration by us all.
