Where I agree with Obama

One interesting thing about being part of a Third party is that you don't always disagree with everyone. In fact I tend to agree with both parties on many different issues. While I still feel that Chuck Baldwin would have been the best President for this time, I do agree with Obama on a few issues. I thought, for my own mental health, that it would be good for me to identify issues where Obama and I agree.

These are copied verbatim from Barack Obama's On the Issues page.
  • Ok for state to restrict late-term partial birth abortion.
  • When Bush came in, we had a surplus; now we have a deficit.
  • National debt up from $6T to $10T under Bush.
  • Can't do anything at home with $12 billion a month on Iraq.
  • Take China "to the mat" about currency manipulation.
  • Gays should not face discrimination but should not marry.
  • Decisions about marriage should be left to the states.
  • Get parents re-engaged in educating the children.
  • Nuclear power ok, as one component of energy mix.
  • Gas tax holiday is a classic Washington gimmick.
  • Willing to suspend ethanol subsidy to keep food prices down.
  • Must be tough on Iran, but talk to them too.
  • Supports Israel's self-defense
  • Fair trade should have tangible benefits for US.
  • Eliminate government programs that no longer work.
  • Use technology to shine a light on spending.
  • Need a government that listens to the people again.
  • Give D.C. the opportunity to elect its own representatives.
  • Bush's signing statements are a clear abuse of prerogative.
  • Create "Google for Government" to track government spending.
  • Half of us don't vote; time for taking it back.
  • No torture; no renditions; no operating out of fear.
  • No presidential power for secret surveillance.
  • No holding US citizens as unlawful enemy combatants.
  • Congress decides what constitutes torture, not president.
  • Close Guantanamo and restore the right of habeas corpus.
  • Don't allow our politics to be driven by fear of terrorism.
  • Address the deficiencies in the VA (veteran's affairs) system.
  • The cost of the Iraq war should not shortchange VA benefits.
  • No action against Iran without Congressional authorization.
  • Do a better job patrolling the Canadian and Mexican borders.
  • End incentives that move jobs overseas.
  • Paying more at Wal-Mart is worth it for having US jobs.
  • The Republicans make a big election about small things.
  • Unwise war in Iraq distracted us from catching Bin Laden.
  • You don't defeat a terrorist network by occupying Iraq.
It is my hope that Obama emphasizes these issues as President, and that he stands up for what is best for America. Of course it is interesting to compare the size of this post with the list of all the issues Obama stands for.

Also, if you find yourself with a couple free seconds, vote for my hero in the CNN Hero's competition. Our goal is for each person to vote 20 times a day until November 20.
